This is something I would like to see more about, A grant has been given from the London Waste and Recycling Board to help set up three furniture recycling shops within the city.
The cash will go the the charity, Trinity who help young homeless people learn new skills by working in the charity’s shops, which also provides them with accommodation in return for their help as employee’s. The extra cash the charity will get is going to help them set up three new shops that will create 69 new employment opportunities, with the first shop due to open later this year near Uxbridge High Street.
It will also purchase three new second hand vans that will be converted to run on bio-diesel, these vans will then collect unwanted furniture to try and stop people just dumping sofas and other household furniture, that is perfectly usable, into landfills. The bio-diesel vans and the recycling element also help to show the charity is helping to fight the war against climate change, which is a big problem, especially in London where they face fines if they continue to dump as much waste into landfills. Trinity hopes that there shops will eventually help 3,000 tonnes stay away from landfills and get recycled and reused instead (they already divert 1,000 tonnes.)

This is an absolutely great idea. I’m sure that there are many people who have no idea what to do with their old furniture.

This is a really good idea. A lot of people sit for months dithering about getting rid of their old or broken furniture and end up just throwing it away. It’s a waste, every piece could be of value to someone who has nothing.
