£100,000 Cash Injection For London Furniture Recycling Shops
Posted by Jeff Awesome in Interior Design on October 14th, 2009
This is something I would like to see more about, A grant has been given from the London Waste and Recycling Board to help set up three furniture recycling shops within the city.
The cash will go the the charity, Trinity who help young homeless people learn new skills by working in the charity’s shops, which also provides them with accommodation in return for their help as employee’s. The extra cash the charity will get is going to help them set up three new shops that will create 69 new employment opportunities, with the first shop due to open later this year near Uxbridge High Street.
It will also purchase three new second hand vans that will be converted to run on bio-diesel, these vans will then collect unwanted furniture to try and stop people just dumping sofas and other household furniture, that is perfectly usable, into landfills. The bio-diesel vans and the recycling element also help to show the charity is helping to fight the war against climate change, which is a big problem, especially in London where they face fines if they continue to dump as much waste into landfills. Trinity hopes that there shops will eventually help 3,000 tonnes stay away from landfills and get recycled and reused instead (they already divert 1,000 tonnes.)
Need A Nicer Bin?
Posted by Jeff Awesome in Interior Design on October 5th, 2009
I’ve always thought I need a nicer bin. Sure you can get brushed aluminium ones but even then they’re still a bit plain, and nowadays with everyone being so concerned about climate change you have to use two bins one for normal trash and one for recyclable materials. But now you can get loads of different style bins from arty to techy! So no longer does a bin have to be a horrible manky looking black plastic abomination it can now be one of the coolest pieces of furniture in the Kitchen! Here are a few of the best I have found.
To continue with the climate change friendly theme of recycling how about a funky little bin that will help sort out all your different recyling. The bin actually works using the barcode and when u swipe the item the corresponding drawer will open for that type of material! Amazing! Barcode Bin link
This bin actually grows in size the more rubbish is put inside, it would give you a couple more days before you had to empty the bin at least. plus it looks fanastic. Link
The Ovetto Bin – Another bin designed to help with the recycling tht features different sections for different types of trash as well as a rotating base so it doesn’t matter if it is put against a wall.
And finally the ultimate geek bin - The R2-D2 wastebasket. This is pretty self explanatory.
