IKEA – The Facebook Ad

Ikea, the purveyors of fine furniture that never gets built quite right because most people are useless at DIY, have recently made a right kerfuffle on Facebook in a bit of absolute marketing genius. The video explains it all so just have a quick look.

In my mind this is the best kind of marketing, instead of annoying pop ups and banner ads you have to go to them to see the adverts and even then its a win win situation because everybody loves to get free stuff. Especially when that free stuff is normally quite expensive furniture like sofas, wardrobes, beds, etc as they are not exactly the cheapest thing to buy. So if I can sit on Facebook, like I do most days anyway, and get free stuff just buy tagging myself and being a company’s friend then that, to me, sounds awesome!

Student Houses – Can They Be Cool?

I was a student, I remember the houses, the dirty broken houses. It wasn’t that my houses were untidy, for the most part they were pretty clean but it was the standard of the house and the furniture that came with it. As a student getting a house with its own furniture is ideal because you don’t have anything and can’t afford to buy anything either but landlords will never buy anything worth more than a packet of monster munch to put in a student house and rightly so it will probably just get trashed. The houses themselves are about the same, the landlord will spend the bare minimum amount to keep the house upright but other than that everything else is a complete mess.

The sofas I had in my last house, no word of a lie, sounded like there was something living in them. When we first turned up we got so worried we took them outside and (shh dont tell the landlord) cut them open. Lets just say if you don’t like spiders you would have hated those sofas! Not only where they awful, uncomfortable and full of spiders, one was a horrible shade of red and the other was bright blue!

Once one of my house mates girlfriends tried to make the place a bit nicer and got some flowers to put above the TV. They had possibly the shortest lifespan of any flowers ever. It was worth a try at least but it was never going to be a happy ending.

When I started writing this post I was trying to find pictures of awesome student houses and I couldn’t actually find one! I know in films they tend to be amazing (case in point Van Wilder) but in reality they just end up looking like this.

Christmas Adverts….Already!

Barely hitting November and already I have started getting bombarded with Christmas adverts everywhere! It gets earlier every year I swear! Due to my predicament of being insanely poor this up and coming Christmas because of my new house, I’m trying to think of ideas for presents that wont cost me much. I have had a few ideas but the best one I reckon is Christmas hampers.

Hamper for christmas Christmas Adverts….Already!

I have loads of rubbish around and now that I am moving I am guaranteed to find more, so what better way to get rid of it than to recycle it and pack it up into Christmas hampers to give to my friends and family. Provided I remember not to give anyone a hamper that contains a gift they gave to me at some point I think I should be a-ok.

Some people may think that I am being cheap, which I am but I like to think of myself as being aware of climate change and like to try and recycle as much as possible. I’m sure I could make little hampers out of recycled material easily enough so I would be doing my part for climate change this Christmas, I wont mention the fake plastic tree I have….

I will keep you up to date on how I get on with making the special recycled Christmas hampers nearer to actual Christmas time!
