Ireland’s money troubles are continuing and for those not hit by the bad times it could mean some absolute bargains are to be had in the housing market. Property consultancy Allsop is having a mass auction of repossessed homes with around 80 lots being sold at some bargain prices.

I would imagine investors and those with the free cash will be raiding their Irish deposit account and snapping up the bargains and a few homes could make a nice little earner from renting. The houses and flats for sale include everything from stylish apartments in old Georgian houses to new flats in up and coming trendy places like Dublin’s docklands.
At the top of the pile are homes in Dublin’s Sandymount and Ballsbridge districts, which commanded big prices in the property boom. An example is a two bed flat in a prestigious block in central Dublin, it was on sale before at €900,000 and it now has an auction reserve price of just €220,000! A four-bed house in south Dublin has an auction price tag of €400,000 but Allsop won’t reveal details of what it used to be priced at but estate agents say even a modest home in that area would have fetched €2m in better times.
The auction is on the 15th April and I can imagine some amazing houses will be snapped up by eager bargain hunters. I wish I could afford to put a bid in of €220k for a €900k house!
