I remember seeing a motorised sofa on Big Breakfast absolutely years ago so when I saw a link to an article about a couple of Brigham Young University students building one to ride around campus I will admit I giggled to myself.

Apparently the young geniuses quickly built it using a broken electric wheelchair and two twelve volt batteries and started riding the sofa-car around campus, much to the annoyance of campus police who say all motorised vehicles are strictly banned! Spoilsports! Everyone knows sofas won’t do anyone harm it would be like getting run into by a big soft cushion!

They even managed to get on the local news! Good work lads!

Right i’m off to find me an old sofa and a wheelchair…

By the way I would love to know about any other wacky furniture that has been built, someone must have made a motorised bed by now!

You know how designers just have to come up with something utterly cool looking for the most mundane items just because? Well the leaf tie is one product that is exactly that, it is basically a glorified cable tie that they have managed to make into something achingly cool and impossibly beautiful for something that is meant to be hidden most of the time.

However nowadays people have a lot of cables and sometimes with things like iPods and iPhones the cable is the iconic white and always on view, so it was only a matter of time before someone came up with something to replace the ugly plain cable ties.

The company behind the ‘Leaf Tie’ is Lufdesign and from the pictures it seams they want people to just tie them onto anything that needs a bit of colour and countryside in a bid to make dull grey urban areas a little bit more ‘leafy’. Plants, flowers and greenery always seem to make me smile but then I am a county boy through and through, I am a massive fan of the cute little ties and would imagine they would sell well in places like IKEA as long as the price is good.

Now if there is one thing I love seeing its things that are a little bit more homebrew than your normal pro stuff and so when I saw a link to a prom dress made by a kid using chewing gum wrappers I thought, hmm sounds interesting…

So here’s the deal, from what I gather Prom is a pretty big deal to American kids and girls especially freak out over what they are going to wear and have to make it perfect (at least this is what I gather from watching far too many MTV style programs) So for a girl to choose to make her own dress and then to think of doing it from recycled chewing gum wrappers must have been a big deal!

I fully commend her for doing it though and to be honest it doesn’t look half bad and she’s got quite a lot of exposure from doing it. Everyone in her school now knows who she is and when your a kid that’s, like, totally the most important thing evarrrr. I wonder if she decided to go the whole nine yards and has matching crisp packet underwear?

She has actually shown a real talent for being able to knock together a nice outfit and has surely got a career in making some amazing dresses in the future if she carries on with great ideas like this, it can’t be easy making something that looks half decent out of foil gum wrappers!
