My Flowering Flytrap Is Completely Dead!

venus fly trap 630x420 My Flowering Flytrap Is Completely Dead!

Well as you might have read a few months ago I got given a Venus Fly Trap that was the coolest house warming present ever. It’s a flower that eats things, how could it not be awesome? However unbeknown to me Fly Traps do actually flower but it is not something you want to let happen because unless you are a pro (or in my case if you even know how to water a plant) it is very hard to keep a flowering Fly Trap alive, The traps will die and you get a small pretty rubbish flower for a few weeks before it starts all over again.

Sadly however because I am a bit of a noob when it comes to keeping things alive, I figured out it was flowering too late to stop it and now I’m left with a completely dead plant that just looks like some dried up mud in a pot right now. It is not all bad news however because I had another party at my house this weekend and I got given a few flowers as a present, it did show up a bit of a problem though in that I realised I did not own any kind of vase… Big Spaghetti holder it is then!

So now I feel like I need to buy a vase but for me to warrant spending my hard earned on one I’m going to need to keep a fresh supply of nice flowers coming into my house at all times. Being poor but such an amazingly good looking chap I think that people will obviously send flowers to me quite often (…my mum) but if they don’t I’m sure the neighbours will have something nice that they won’t notice is missing.*

*Don’t steal flowers, it is a dastardly thing to do!

The Millennium Dome (02 Arena)

Millennium Dome 630x840 The Millennium Dome (02 Arena)

The Millennium Dome is probably one of the biggest architectural failures of recent times (along with the Burj Dubai that got shut down almost as soon as it opened!) It was built to celebrate the millennium and was opened as an exhibition to the public on January 1st 2000 and ran for a year until 31 December 2000. However the project and exhibition came under a lot of flack and political controversy because it failed to attract the number of visitors it had hoped for, which led to recurring financial problems.

The exhibition and insides of the Dome was soon knocked down and lay dormant for a year, which in itself cause a lot of uproar when it was reported by Lord Falconer that it was still costing £1 million per month to maintain. However in December 2001 it was announced that Meridian Delta Ltd would be taking over ownership from the government and it was going to build up a community on the surrounding land and the Dome would become a huge sports and entertainment centre. In may 2005 it was officially renamed as The 02 and has been holding big events in ever since.

The huge dome is the largest of its type in the world and has 12 100m high support towers on it, which is meant to represent each month of the year or each hour on a clocks face. It is also 365m in diameter, one metre for every day of the year. Even with all the controversy it is still one of the best known landmarks in the UK and if you are flying to London you should be able to spot it at some point.

So that is basically the Millennium Dome or The 02, Started off shaky but has now become one of the best music venues in London.

GM Flowers

Flowers are undoubtedly very pretty things when they are in full blossom and they have been used to seduce women or as an apology for years and years purely because of the fact that they look pretty and make a nice decoration (because lets face it they don’t really do much else once they have been cut!) But yet some clever fella has decided that flowers are not actually that great and could be genetically modified to look a lot more colourful!

The genetically modified flowers are called rainbow roses or happy roses and are made by placing various food dyes in the a cream roses water supply as it is grown with one colour being used at a time to create multicoloured flower arrangements. The exact process is unknown and is kept as a secret by the Dutch florist Peter van de Werken but you can now get them over here in Britain but they do not come cheap with one stem costing £24.49 and a dozen setting you back a whopping £64.87! So if you get a bouquet of these then your a very lucky person (or the person getting them for you is very rich!)
