<p style="text-align: justify;">oh yes! (i&#8217;m so very very sorry!) I just found out that <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winston_Churchill">Winston Churchill&#8217;s</a> very own sofa, used during his second term in office from &#8217;51 to &#8217;55, was recently sold for a staggering £7500! Now that is a lot for a sofa, even in the designer world where <a href="http://www.marksandspencer.com/Sofas-Armchairs-Home-Furniture/b/43937030">sofas</a> can cost <em>a lot</em>. Its made even more unbelievable when you see the condition of it, OK condition would be a massive compliment!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><img src='http://www.redesign-day.com/blog/wp-content/plugins/hungred-image-fit/scripts/timthumb.php?src=http://www.redesign-day.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/churchill-sofa.jpg&h=0&w=600&zc=1&q=100' title='Churchill&#8217;s Sofa' alt='churchill sofa Churchill&#8217;s Sofa' /></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Is a sofa really worth that much just because of who owned it? If that is the case imagine if someone like Paris Hilton sold her sofa, It would be worth literally&#8230;..a few pennies! An English man living in South Africa was the winning bidder and has been asked for the sofa to be &#8220;sympathetically restored&#8221;. Personally I very much doubt it would be a sofa that would actually get used so why not leave it in the ratty state it is in now? It would give for a much better story in my opinion.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/ukpressphotographer/"><img src='http://www.redesign-day.com/blog/wp-content/plugins/hungred-image-fit/scripts/timthumb.php?src=http://www.redesign-day.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/churchill-sofa-with-girl.jpg&h=0&w=600&zc=1&q=100' title='Churchill&#8217;s Sofa' alt='churchill sofa with girl Churchill&#8217;s Sofa' /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">It was lucky how it was saved because it was going to be scrapped as as broken old sofa, until the owners brother said it would be a shame to destroy it because of its heritage. They decided to auction it off expecting a relatively small amount and were obviously rather pleased with the final price, I know I would be!</p>
