Munich is famous for the wonderful Oktoberfest and is a huge tourist destination during those times when people come to the Bavarian capital to enjoy a beery beverage, bratwurst and lederhosen. However Munich is a great place to visit whatever time of the year it is.

The site of the tragic 1972 Munich Olympics is still a marvellous place to visit, with the unique 70,000-seat stadium as its centrepiece. For those looking for a little peace and tranquillity there is the pleasant surroundings of the Englischer Garten in Schwabing. Visitors and locals meet in the beautifully kept 900-acre park, complete with paths, bridges and streams and rare examples of trees and plants.
Culture and history buffs are also well served by Munich, its excellent Alte Pinakothek houses one of the most important collections of art, while the gothic 15th century cathedral is a most interesting place. Beer aficionados will enjoy a tour of the old Hofbrauhaus Brewery, which has been converted into a museum, detailing Munich’s contribution to drinking down the ages.
Along with the excitement of the Oktoberfest, Munich is also famed for its enchanting customary Christmas Markets, turning the town into a medieval wonderland of small stalls and traditional gifts.
Getting to Munich couldn’t be easier either with plenty of options for driving into the city but you can also fly to the Munic Franz Josef Strauss Airport, which is just 28km northeast of Munich. It is the second busiest airport in Germany and has flights coming into Munich from Abu Dhabi, USA, Germany and most other places you would want to arrive from.
